Iron Fish Trusted Setup Opens to Community

We recently announced that our trusted setup was coming soon — it opens to the community at 12pm PT today! 🎊 It will run through March 3rd.

At 12pm we’re also hosting a live event on YouTube with guests Jill Gunter (Espresso), Lisa Cuesta Bunin (Aztec), and Jerod Moore (DigitalSpacePort). Add it to your calendar here. We hope to see you there!

This is a key step toward mainnet, and your chance to help ensure that Iron Fish is secure and ready to empower users to make encrypted transactions. Participating only takes a few steps (see below).

How do I participate? 

Participation is simple! Follow the steps below, or watch our tutorial video.

1. Install Iron Fish

   • With Node (version 18) and npm, it should be as easy as npm install -g ironfish in your Terminal; for more information, see our docs.

   • To test that you have Iron Fish installed, run: ironfish --version. The version should be v0.1.65 or later.

2. Contribute to the trusted setup
   • To start your contribution, run: ironfish ceremony
   • After you contribute your randomness, you’ll enter the queue and see Waiting to contribute... message. Leave the command running, and it will automatically begin your contribution.
   • When your contribution is finished, it will be uploaded to the server.
   • Once the server has verified your contribution, you’ll receive a message that includes your contribution's hash. After the trusted setup is complete in March, you can use your hash information to check the final Iron Fish parameters and verify that your contribution hash is included.

And that’s it! Once you start the process and enter the queue, you don’t need to be present, as the program will automatically end when the process is complete.
